The Pestival is an annual event hosted by the Great Barrier Island Environmental Trust. It brings together the many conservation projects from the island along with industry heavyweights from around the country.
Operations Manager Chris Giblin outlined Tū Mai Taonga's first phase of work at the Pestival event last month.
Field workers will create a network of lightly marked bush tracks over the summer. This will allow trail cameras and traps to be put in place across 4500 ha of the northern block as part of an ambitious programme to remove feral cats.
Tū Mai Taonga’s learn-by-doing approach is designed to create a staged pathway to the eradication of feral cats and rats across the island.
